Joe Rogan and the Podcast Revolution$

There comes a point in media when a shift happens.

Some times such landmarks are obvious. Such as the moment 100 years ago when the first radio news program was broadcast by station 8MK in Detroit, Michigan. All we have known about radio both commercial and public broadcasts since – and to some extent podcasts too - we can trace to that first transmission on August 31, 1920.

This week there was news in the podcast world, which at first glance looks like just another piece of showbiz gossip. I’m speaking about Joe Rogan. Reportedly, he has been paid $100 million by Spotify, the Swedish streaming service, for an exclusive deal in regards to his podcast show: The Joe Rogan Experience.

Rogan’s entire podcast library of his top-3 iTunes charts rated show and all its associated videos will move to Spotify from around September this year. After that content will become exclusive to Spotify’s 286 million users.
